HISTORY
The Utah Lions Foundation helped establish the Eye Bank in 1972. The Eye Bank serves as a coordinating center for eye tissue donated by Utahns upon their death.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
The Utah Lions Eye Bank serves the community and the Intermountain region by encouraging people to pledge and ultimately donate their eyes at death. Tissue is accepted from eye donors of any race, religion, and age according to Eye Bank policy.
The Eye Bank evaluates, recovers, processes and distributes corneas to qualified ophthalmic surgeons for transplantation and supplies eye tissue for a variety of research and educational projects. Eye tissue is distributed, upon request, on a just, fair and equitable basis. Potential donors and recipients are served twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week by the technical staff of the Utah Lions Eye Bank under the direction of the medical, executive and technical directors. The Utah Lions Eye Bank is an accredited member of the Eye Bank Association of America.
